Tourists in Italy aro being assured tliat they will not only be well treated but protected against every kind of exploitation and will at all times be able to turn to Signor Angelo Mariotti, Director-General of the Italian State; Tourists Department, an innovation sponsored; by the Fascist Government. "Unjust treatment of travellers, or dishonesty on the part of individual hotel men or public officials should be immediately reported to my Department)" states Signor Maivitti. In the matter of highways, Italy is -now building what may be considered a new type of road—not so much new in the'sense of typo of material or roadbed as in its operations and functionings. These roads are known as "autostrades," and it will soon be possible for a motorist to ..make a non-stop drive from Torino, at the top of the Italian boot, to Keggio at its toe. This new type.of highway has already been' completed in many sections of Italy and is typical of what the Italian highways between northcm and southern Italy will bo. Tliny iiro reserved■ for unusually fast traffic in safety and with an unlimited speed permitted by law. They are of cement, carefully graded, wide enough to permit tho'passage of three cars, and have all intersecting roads passing either overhead or underneath.
