MINISTER ATTACKED.
"We havo just listened to an acadoinie speech," said Mr. H. S. S. Kyle (Ecfqiin, Biccarton), who followed the Minister of Education (the Hon. 11. Atmore) in the second reading debate on the Finance Bill in tho House of Eeprcsontatives last night. "I must say that the Minister has gone a long way since the clays he quoted Bobbie Burns and Shakespeare. He now quotes economists such as Eanisay Mac Donald. He said, that 'he was in favour of shorter hours of work, and I thought for a moment that he would be the next leader of the Labour Party. He poured out crocodile tears for the workers, but I wonder what the people will think when they read his speech in the newspapers. He has made such a muddle of education in this country that I think he should send in his resignation."
Later, Mr. Kyle, again referring to Mr. Atmore, said: "When the Minister was elected to the position _of Minister of Education he was going to be a strong man, he was not going to be dictated to by his Department. However, ho set np a Committee to bring down an educational system for the Dominion, and now the Government of thA Day is going, to set up a Commission to inquire into educational expenditure. ''
