DEMAND FOR INCOME TAX

(Eeceived 11th March, ,1 p.m.) LONDON, 16th March. Federal Civil Servants in Australia House, whose life for the last six t iths has been full of doubts and fears, received another shock to-day when, without, warning, they were required to complete income tax returns. Hitherto they have not paid the Australian tax, nor, under a reciprocal arrangement, the British income tax. They claim that they have given either signed or implied undertakings .that they are not liable f6r tax.
