ANOTHER AMMON RA ?
BRONZE EAGLE IS GOOD
The" Australian-bred Bronze Eagle, having only- his second start in a race, made playthings of the opposition -in the Plunket Nursery Handicap. Fair Weather, Columbaj Psychologist," Solvent, Hampden, and Bronze Eagle were conspicuous in the early running, but before they came on to the course proper Bronze Eagle had run into the lead followed by Hampden, Psychologist, High Comedy, Curie, Solvent, and Oratorian, with Golden Wings coming fast. It was no race over the final part, Bronze Eagle drawing away to win by a good five or six lengths from High Comedy and Oratorian, who tlcadhcated for second place just in front of the fast-finishing View Halloo. Next were Curie, Fair Weather, Psychologist, Cricket Bat, Richborough, Solvent, and Golden Wings. The winner, who revealed his form in a brilliant gallop on Friday, was made a firm second favourite, and he paid only a fair price. He is a bay colt by Brazen,
a young English "sire by Phalaiis, foaled in 1923 and imported to New South Wales in 1027, from Torfrcda (full-sister to Hymestra and Hyailes), by Ilymettus from Straga, by Birkonhead. Hymeslra was the best two-year-old of his year, and Hyades is the clam of Prodicc, Phaolii, and Animon Ra. Bronze Eagle is therefore closely related to Ammon Rn, the Dominion's best two-year-old of the present season, but recently sold to an Australian sportsman. Mr. C. C. Shentli. Ho was bred by Mr. H. C. Rouse, the owner of Brazen, and was purchased on behalf of Dr. W. C. Riug for 320 guineas at the Sydney sales last year. His remarkably easy win points to his being probably, as good as any other two-year-old now racing in the Dominion. High Comedy and Oratorian, first and third favourites respectively, fully justified the esteem in which Ilicy are held, but they had to lower their colours to a really good one. View Halloo is evidently improving. Golden Wings would have been harder had he not been caught in the tapes at the release, but it. is doubtful whether he would have had any chance with the winner.
