APPRECIATION
[ (To the Editor.) 6ir',— Tlw medical superintendent of the Wellington Hospital, in his report to Ac board yesterday, very properly eulogises thQge voluntary and other helpers who waited so afcly to assist the unfortunate sui^jrers from the earthquake area. Unfortunately, he has unwittingly omitted th# sisters, nurses, and V.A.D.'s of the E»d Cross in his mead of praise, and as tftess ladies met every train at any time of day or night, giving their services with the usual keenness and cheerfulness that characterises the best traditions of the Red Cross, they should have been included. These were available at any time, and did much to help the unfortunate cot cases— in some instances accompanying the patients to the hospital in the Corporation lorries, which were large enough to accommodate two beds—thus relieving the weary nurses who had attended the patients throughout the strenuous train journey. The care and attention of all refugees was the part allotted to the . Red Cross, arid this work was thoroughly and willingly carried through, as evinced by the many expressions of sincere thanks from weary mothers with helpless children. The nurses were sent forward to Palmerston North every clay, returning in the trains which brought the sufferers, and were able thus to do particularly good .work before the arrival at Wellington, j
being a source of great comfort to the harassed and distressed. They (the Red Cross ladies) are certainly entitled to recognition when public thanks are being disteiSuted.—l Bin, et* v I A MEMBER OF EXECUTIVE.
