NEW CHURCH SITE
NEAR KARORI.PARK
A special general meeting oi; the I parishioners of St. Mary's Church, j Karori, was held on: Thursday to discuss | a proposal to purchase a site for a new church near Karori Park. The Eev. F. M.' Eempthorne presided- over a good attendance. :. • The vicar said that Karori was rapidly becoming the main suburb of Wellington, and it was imperative that new residents should be, provided with facilities for worship. An estimato from the City Council showed that ultimately Karori would eontaiu 30,000 residents, and expansion would naturally be to the south, where it was now proposed to buy land. Mr. W. England had offered his property, ) of nearly 5-Bths of an acre, to the church, for £1000, and as the position was ideal the chance of acquiring the land should not bo missed. An option had been obtained, and it was necessary to close with this at once, as it expired on Ist March. Mr. S. T. Dibble had surveyed the land, and had reported that the opportunity was ideal. . Messrs. Barns and Eobb had prepared a separate report, and were negotiating with Mr. England. The £100 cash required by the owner had been guaranteed by Mr. F. TV. Neweombe, 'and. a donation of £.10 had already been received towards expenses. . ' A resolution moved by Mr. Eobb, that the meeting should support the church in procuring the property, was carried. It was also moved that a Trust Board, consisting of Bey. F. M. Kempthorne, and Messrs.. Caldwell, Henderson, and Neweombe, should be sot up to administer the property. Matters were finalised to-day, and the land has been procured.
