THE FINAL "PAM"

There have been three books about "Pam," 'the creation of the Baroness yon Hutten. Now there is a fourth — "Pain's Own Story" (Hutchinson), and it is apparently the final one. It is written by Pam herself, and is frankly and entertainingly autobiographical. The acid test in using old characters in new books is whether such characters remain true to type and as vital as when they first appeared. It is twen-ty-six years since the original Pam burst unexpectedly on au appreciative world in the way that best sellers do. Those who remember, her birth will not be disappointed in this fresh mooting. Those who have not been introduced should tako the opportunity now offered, for even though literature would have suffered no great blow if Pam had not survived the. effort of creation, tho Baroness yon Hutten is_ an extremely competent and entertaining novelist.
