ROSE IN RHODESIA

(British Official Wireless.) (Received 21st February, 11 a.m.) RUGBY, 20th February. Flight-Lieutenant Rose has abandoned his attempt to establish a new record for a solo flight from England to Cape Town. H© is likely to be delayed about a week at Palapye effecting repairs to the under-carriage of his aero-' plane, wrecked in landing after a flight from Bulawayo yesterday. ' Rose was uninjured.
Flight-Lieutenant Rose, who left Lympne last Wednesday in an attempt to set up a new record flight between England and Capo Town, but was delayed in the early stages of the flight, arrived at Bulawayo on 18th February. He expected then to complete the flight in just over nine days, at an average of '950 miles a day.
