NEW PLYMOUTH NOTES
(By Tolcjraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. Lady Quex was galloped on during the Tunning of the Flying on Thursday last, and there was a great deal of doubt of her starting in the Stakes. She went to the post, but there seems no doubt that the injury affected her running. She has since been scratched for the Flying at Wanganui to-morrow, but it is hoped that she will see the post in the Jackson Stakes on Saturday. ' Hunting Cry was also galloped on during the running of the Flying Handicap, but he went a fino race in the Stakes. He was galloped on the plougr yesterday morning, and although he pulled, up all right, he is a doubtful starter on Saturday. After Wanganui he will probably be sent homo to Hawkes Bay, and J. M. Cameron wiH do the-meeting at Bulls with The Hmvk and Lotus Lily. The Hawk wont two good races and moved freely over fivo furlongs yesterday morning. It would como as no !iurprise if he were to win.a race in the near future. Melissa went two good races under big weights last week, and with only 7.2 on her back is fancied by her connections in tho Flying Handicap at Wanganui. Her finishing efforts hero were not very impressive, but tho shorter distance may be to her advantage. Royal Finance finished like a train irt the hack six the second day at >ie.w Plymouth, and is sure to be improved by her two runs. She has been going very well on the tracks, and a race should come her way beforo long. Easter Time would appear to hivo had enough racing at present, bn\ a short spoil will work wonders vith him, and he should be ready to show his best again about Easter. Gibraltar, in the same ownership, was added ..to the list last week, and has been turned out for a spell. ' Cvenna Town was very confidently backed hero tho first day, and when ha WBS third coming into the straight his supporters wcro on good terms with themselves. However, ho failed to finish on and fourth was the best ho could do. However, it transpired that he was hurt when hi) collided with tho rail going out of the straight, and ho was very lame afterwards. W. Mantle is giving him a lot of sea bathing, and it is hoped that tho injury will not prove very serious. It was intended to start Orapai the second day in New Plymouth, but he developed kidney trouble on the mcrning of the race, and lie had to bo left in his box. However, the trouble is not thought to bo serious, and he will be in work again shortly. He is now out of hacks, but he should pay his vray among the open sprinters. Green Patch, who was turned out for a short spell after his win,at Stratford, has built up quite a lot and is getting through his tasks in good style. He will probably accompany the /ithrt members of I?. Johnson's team when they go on tour.
