RICCARTON TRACK NOTES

(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Track work at Kiccarton this morning did not provide any excitement. The No. 1 grass track was open for fast work, but proceedings were confined chiefly to useful pace work. The Trentham trainer, G. Jones, who arrived the- previous day, had his team out, but the horses were not seriously tested. A number of trainers took advantage of the opportunity to give their young horses practice at the- barrier, and some of them sprinted a few furlongs down the straight. Semper Paratua has made good progress lately. He held his condition well after being gelded, and has been putting plenty of dash into his training gallops. His form on Saturday will be watched with some interest, as he shows promise of being a winner before- long. Don Jose looks none the worse for his race in the Dunedin Cup, and G. J. Pine expects him to run well in the Midsummer Handicap, in which L. J. Ellis will be his pilot. Compris is in capital condition, and may make early amends for the t/ad luck which attended him at the Dunedin Meeting. The following are among the- riding engagements for the Canterbury Jockey Club's Meeting on Saturday:—D. Cotton, Great Star, Pixie Gold, and Miss Bradbury; A. Messervey, Compris, Juniper, and Grand Review; I. Tilson, Aberfeldy. G. Humphries is making a good recovery from a broken collarbone, the result of a fall with Solvent at Trentham last month. He hopes to have the- arm out of the sling this week and be ready for race riding at the Banks Peninsula Meeting early next month.
