WRESTLING ASSOCIATION TO ASSIST

In an endeavour to do its part in aiding the earthquake relief fund, the Wellington division of the North Island Wrestling Association held a meeting last night, when it was decided to stage a contest on .Monday, 9th March, the whole of the gross proceeds to be handed to the fund. To achieve this offers have been received from all sides—Mr. W. Higgins, well known in racing circles, has donated" the purse for the principal bout, Mr. M. A. Carr, president of the Wellington Division, will give trophies for the amateur bouts, and the Commercial Travellers' Association will work in .conjunction with the local body to provide the organisation for the purposes of the efficient running of the night's entertainment. The Minister of Internal Affairs has been asked £0 remit the amusement tax. Mr. George Slade, chairman of the local association, will supply all tho necessary printing free. The pupils of Mr. L. Winter, who controls the gymnasium of the local association, will provide the amateur bouts, and the star item will be the meeting of "Scotty" M'Dougall and the newcomer, Higgins. The last-named has. (lie distinction of giving the British Empire champion, George Walker, the hardest match he has had to date.
