The writ of excommunication and sentence of "Vitandus" (one who must be shunned) has been passed upon M. Turmeil, a former priest of Rennes (trance), by the Holy Office of Rome. He is accused of modernism. In the town of Rennes, which is extremely religious, no Roman Catholic, even among M. Turmeil s closest friends, will meet him. If he enters any Roman Catholic Church he will be ordered to leave. There are only five living persons upon whom the sentence of Vitandus has been passed.
