UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD
MEMBERS IN THE PROVINCES
The Unemployment Board has resumed its meetings, after a week's interval, during which the members made individual visits to many parts of the Dominion. The main purpose of the tours was to gain first-hand knowledge regarding the work carried out under the board's various schemes.
A further reason- that induced members to visit the provincial centres was the desire personally to explain to local authorities the details of the latest of the board's proposals, and to get the opinions of the men comprising these local bodies. The. tour has proved most satisfactory from every point of view. The members have returned with a thorough comprehension of the unemployment position in all localities, and a fuller realisation of the various phases of the problem. At their first meeting this week, members briefly reported the salient facts connected with their individual tours, and revealed some very interesting details of the manner in which the relief plans had met the situation. Without exception, tho members of the board were everywhere received most cordially, and tjiey found that members of local bodies showed an intelligent interest in the work of the board.
