Past experience has Bhown that Monday night attendances are generally Well below those customary at Saturday night meetings at the Kilbirnie Speedway Stadium, and this, combined with the fact •that Kilmistci, the local star, was 'absent in the South Island for the test match against England to-morrow night, accounted for the mere sprinkling of spectators last night. In addition the weather which had caused the postponement from Saturday was not as warm as might have been desired. After a series of elimination contests, in the first of which D. Higgins returned the good time of 80 3-ssec, I<\ B. Appleyard met H. L. Lucchesi (holder) in a match for the silver gauntlet. AppLeyard won comfortably in 88 4-ssec. There was also a series of match races in which the Australians E. Whittle, H, Stevens, and C. Spinks met P. Phillips, C. Tonks, K. Naylor, W. Harvic, and A. Hunger, and these were mostly well contested., Spinks and Tonks had a keen duel, the Australian, who had the inside running, beating Tonks by a narrow margin in 81 4-ssec, The track was not in the best of condition, and the riders had to exercise care in some tricky patches, with the result that the times' suffered.

The principal event <jvas a handicap race in which the visitors and the ..pick-of-the local men took part.
