"DESPICABLE ACT"
MAORI POSES AS WOMAN
KELIEF COMMITTEE IMPOSED
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMHESTON N., This Day. A Maori named Eobina I'erihana, aged 20, described as an artist with no fixed place of abode, was charged in the Magistrate's Court with being a roguu and vagabond and imposing oil the Palmorston North Relief Committee by falsely representing that he was a female. The police stated that the accused, dressed entirely in woman's clothing, gained admittance to the relief camp at the show grounds, giving a false name. The accused was a side-show artist and acrobat. It was believed that he had been f*>nvicted of masquerading in AuckJJFnd in 1929.
The accused: "I have never been in trouble before. I-have always been brought up to be a girl. I never had a chance."
The police said that that was the same plea as was given in Auckland. Tho Magistrate characterised the accused's act as despicable, and sen tented him to throe months' imprisonment.
