SNOWDEN AND THE LEFT

CHANCELLOR'S CRITICS

IS LLOYD GEORGE ONE ?

United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON", 14th February. It is generally felt that Mr. Philip Snowclen will engage in one of the sternest struggles of his career when lie meets the whole Parliamentary Labour Party on Tuesday. The Chancellor's critics are determined to secure more definite ideas of his intentions. Mr. Lloyd George's attack on the city obviously was directed to the Labour back-benchers, and it has not rendered Mr. Snowden's meeting of the party any easier. The extremists regard it as a welcome antidote to Mr. Snowdeu's home truths; also it has accentuated their irritation against Mr. Snowdon. They are complaining bitterly that it has been Jeft to the Liberals to give a fighting lead. It is one of the ironies of the situation that Mr. Lloyd George is at pres- j ent the Left Wing's "white-haired boy." i

Mr. Snowdnn 's critics believe that the pressure they aro now able to exert will ensure a modification of his attitude. Meanwhile Sir Oswald Mosley and his back-bench associates, in view of the meeting, have issued a further manifesto against the Government, declaring that the failure to develop an economic policy was now producing an attack against the standard of Jiving. "The present attacks on wages and the industrial disputes are inevitable until the Government adopts a policy which will avoid disaster."
