"Why didn't Ted get his matric?" 1 i It is true that Ted failed to get his jf matric.; which means that he's gone back to H College. That, of course, is just as well, as i his parents don't realise the necessity for a 9 cultural education. i What they carfi realise is why he failed I this year. Clever. Good school reports. I Does his prep.—and usually puts in the full 1 time. I Does Ted realise himself? Well, after a a fashion he does. He knows that swotting I up history and Nesfield's Manual gives him ' | a headache at nights—while the very i dickens of a geometrical problem doesn't I necessarily affect him.. In other words, ri page after page of type affects' his eyes, I while a sheet of paper with seven straight f lines and eleven letters on it affects them not j$ at all. But he doesn't realise how really '<■ bad his eyes have become. He merely has J an uncomfortable half-knowledge that, in I spite of two hours and a bit fairly conscien- i> tious homework, he really hasn't learnt as ■ * much as he should. $ He's sixteen and a half now. If his m parents don't do .something about it soon, there's going to be serious trouble before he's twenty-one. Let's hope that reading this they take the hint.
