(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Tlio Star of Manly, tho largest launch on tho Auckland' Harbour, was destroyed by fire I his morning while bound from the city to Surfdale, on Waihekc Island. Her owner,' K. Morrison, and his assistant, E. Thompson, swam ashore. Tho launch was oil Motuihi Island; about; v o'cluck, when a primus stove exploded and sot the afterpavt; on iire, It also burst a. ;jar of benzine, with the result that tho flames spread rapidly. Tho engine was not affected, so Mr. Morrison headed full speed for Motuihi, but the hont became so intense that he and Mr. Thompson were iorccd to dive overboard. Another explosion occurred while they were swimming, and tho launch, was afterwards beached herself and was burned to tho water's edge, j
Tho men were botli strong swimmers, and they landed safely. The, launch was built in 1028, and was valued at £2000. The insurance amounted to £850. Mr. Morrison also lost £10 in cash and a watch, and Mr. Thompson, who lived on board, lost his personal effects.
