FOOD AT SOCIAL FUNCTIONS
AUCKLAND CLUB .DISBANDS

AUCKLAND, This Day. , The clisbamliiient of the-Less Luxurious .Teas Club, which was formed early;, last year by a number .qf Auckland hostesses, was decided Upon'at a meeting of tho committee yesterday. '/The club was formed with the object of providing more simpl? fare at social gatherings and subscribing the money] thus saved to same central fund for needy cases. . '" Speaking at'a bridge afternoon held in March, when the movement was first suggested, Mr. "W! H. Parkes, preaident Of the Lyceum Club,'Said there hadi of late years been evolved a veritable, feast of good things at,social entertainments, , followed > quite frequently bydigestive disturbances and regrets' that cream puiSsVand savouries had.'provocl too attractive. With so many'appeal^ for the deserving poor, the ladies interested did not consider it right to' waste so much money on luxurious foodt which was quite unnecessary. It was announced at the meeting yesterday that there were 45 members, who!, had paid a subscription of-5s if theyj were married and 2s if single, the total funds in hand being £11. ■ Regret was expressed at fhe necessity Of disbanding the club owing to the fact that it had not received the support it merited, 1$ was considered, however, that the object had been achieved to a great ex* , tent, teas now being generally of ai : much simpler nature. It was agreed that the money in; hanft-should be donated, to the Mayor '^ earthquake relief fund. • . '
