BEAUTIFYING THE CITY

(To the Editor.) Sir,—Will you allow a visitor to your attractive city to make a suggestion to the authorities? One of the most pleasant parts of the city, to my thinking, is round about Lambton quay, near the Government Buildings, and the, Parliar mentary_ Buildings. The former building has a high iron fence surrounding it, in addition to a live hedge. These hide from the view of the public beautifully laid out flower beds. Surely the fence and hedge could be removed without inconvenience or loss to anyone, and so let the passers-by enjoy the sight of those well-cared-for borders.—l am, etc., : ■; • ; NEWCOMER.
