The Commissioner of Police (Mr. W. G-. Wohlmann) returned- to 'Wellington' last evening from the Hawkes Bay district. He will' leave again for Napier in a day or two. London was passed at a meeting of the Petono Technical High1 School Board .last evening. .The secretary was also, instructed to convey the board's sympathy to the relatives, ;,;T>* : V Archbishop Head, of Melbournejvwho at tho Anglican Synpd roundly criticised Mr. Theodore and .-his /policy, accepted nomination as Anglican. Archbishop of Melbourne, in' 'September, 1929. He is a brilliant scholar;. and man of action. He is a graduate of Cambridge University, where he."took a first class in historical tripos.". He has held many appointments, including those of lecturer in Emmanuel College, of which, in 1927, he was elected a fellow.- He was, among other .things, chaplain to His Majesty 'the' King1 and sub-Dean of Liverpool Cathectiil; ,t>uring the war, he was chaplain -toltha forces, and won the Military Cross 'and bar. He has also,been chaplain to tho Guards Division since the war V.."'■".' The death occurred.yesterday of"'Mr, Walter Freeman,1 at the'age of'76;years,' The late Mr. Freeman^,' who was a wellknown and popular figure in thei Thorndon district, had been ill.".'for a'many months, and his .death was nbt. unexpected. He was born' in London; 'and arrived in Wellington with his parents on the New Era in 1855. He became one of the earliest pupils at the Thomdpa School, under the late Mr. Mowbray. Mr. Freeman entered the catering business, and took, over, the old bank luncheon rooms on Lambton quay from his father arid mother., Later he was proprietor of BarrettV' Hotel 'and of the Island Bay Hotel. 7n,1886 lie'left for the Manawatu district, and while there he was instrumental in getting the Manawatu Railway Company to put dining cars on their trains. , Subsequently Mr. Freeman returned to' Wellington, and for many yearshe conducted a pastrycook's business in. Molesworth, street. He is survived by .Kis widow, three sons , (Messrs. -Len, Jack, and Guy Freeman)', aria two daughters (Mrs. H. S. Parrj of ■ Wadesttrv^ny iand Miss Jean Freeman, of Qhau).
