The Prime Minister (the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes) and other Ministers of the Crown who visited the earthquake area, yesterday, returned to "Wellington this morning. Mr. A..E. Jull, M.P. for Waipawa, is staying at tlio Eoyal Oak Hotel. Sir Louis and Lady Barnett left Wellington for Sydney yesterday by the Makura. Mr. J. Halligan has been appointed chairman and convener of the Exporters' Committee of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce. The Rev. J. K. Archer,' Mayor of Christchurch,'' is at present staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. G. Baildon, Mayor of Auckland; is in Wellington, and is staying at the Hotel St. George. Mr. Cecil Wray, representative at Home of the New Zealand Rugby Union, is due at.Wellington this evening from Wanganui, and leaves on Frit day for Christchurcli and' Timaru. ; Mr. C. W. Kerry has returned to Wellington after giving a lecture and recital at Knox Church, Masterton, The Rev. E. Croriin; formerly medical superintendent of the Whakatane Hospital, who left: New* Zealand about two years ago to pursue studies abroad, was recentl/ appointed resident medical officer at the East London Hospital for Children; according to private advice received in Auckland. After a year at the East London Hospital, Dr. Cronin, who has also been elected: a Fel-. low of the Royal College of Physicians, will, spend six months at an American hospital undeV the University of Washington before returning to New Zealand. The death of Mr. John Hofmeister, of Kaiparoro, occurred recently. The late Mr.. Hof meister, who was born ih. Germany in 1819; came to New" Zealand 58 years ago.' After living in Christchurch he came to Wellington. When the Bush district was settled • under the special settlement scheme he joined the Wellington Special Settlement Association No. 2. He had for a considerable time resided in Kaiparoro, and acted on the local school-committee and on the directorate of the local cheese factory. He leaves a widow, two daughters, and a SOn.
