The Uneniploymeat Board ''has had under consideration an application from the Auckland City Council for financial assistance for relief of. unemployment in Auckland City, states the chairman of the Unemployment Board, the Hon. S. G. Smith. .The money is to be expended on the extension of the Waterfront road, the total estimated cost being £44,763. This is a further section of the road which is being constructed along the whole, of the -sea frontage on the city side of Auckland, and it will provide work for 100 men for six months.

The ; board decided to subsidise wages up to a certain sum, provided the workers are engaged in relay* of two weeks, as far as practicable, and they are to be engaged through labour bureaux.. In this way the work will \»e spread over'a larger number of men.'
