The Economy Committee set up. b*J the Government to make an overhaul of- all Departments and to report tor Cabinet from time to time on the- fuw ther limitation of, or economy in, Stat* services, is Sitting almost continuously* and has now apparently covered thaj preliminary ground. At present it'isf investigating each Department in turns and to-day the Internal AffairSj Touristy and Industries and Commerce Depart* ments were being overhauled. In ttie^a! Departments alone about thirty wit« nesses, from, the Minister, downwards* iare' being called, and thus one majs gauge the magnitude of the inquiry. The personnel of the' committee com* prises the "Hon. Sir'Apirana Ngata, thaj Hon. B. Masters, thoHon. W. ' A« Veitch, the Head of the Treasury (Mr* A. D. Park) and the Public Servict Commissioner (Mr. P. Verschaffelt).
