This Week's Racing. Racing this week will be at 'Pahiatuu (to-morrow and Thursday) and at Taka-> puna (Thursday and Saturday). At Pahiatua. - Trentham Itarses who will race at Pahiatua to-morrow are Taura Lad, Dainty Ways, Lady Rene, Courllike, White Doe (probably), Caught, and Oral. Saltpot is not' to make the trip, but may go to Hawera next week. Goodman's Team. A. Goodman galloped his team (Dainty Ways, Lady-Rene, Courtlike, and White Doe) yesterday morning, and all acquitted themselves'jvdll. They will'be ridden in. their epgagements by the Auckland horseman, H. N. Wiggins. '_ _ Back in Work. J. M'Laughlin reappeared on the track at' Trentham this morning with Stagh'unter and the two-year-old filly Acorn (Paladin—Hornbeam), who have been spelling since the holiday meetings. Staghunter, who has been leased from Mr. E. Kiddiford by his trainer, looks improved as a result of his short let up, and was anxious to do more than the trotting and cantering on the plough that "was his assignment. _.-•-. . Type Sold Privately. The two-year-old Type (Leighton— Merit) has been bought privately from Mr. V. Riddiford by the Christchurch sportsman, Mr. P. (J. Webb, who has hud considerable success' with. Type's elder half-sister, Sapient, whom he purchased from' MfSßiddiford two years ago. Type went south to Riccarton last night, and ■will do most of her future racing round about Canterbury and on the West Coast. New Purchases. Henry of Navarre, a , three^year-old brown gelding ,by Arausio from- the -Martian mare Matty, and Hinewehi, a. two-year-old chestnut filly by Arausio from .the; Merry Moment :mar.e Te Aupaki, the dam of Toxeuma.jand-Pakitere* both of whom: were purchased by the Trentham 'trainer,* A. Gobdmah; last'Friday,'TVere out doing easy, work on,the plough, this morning. Henry> Of Navarre, who won two good ,races last'season,'but has-had only a 'pouple of unplaced starts this season, has grown into a big horse, and-in : size can•hold his own with anything at Trentham. He is in racing trim, and engagements will probably shortly be made for him. Hinewehi is a bright chestnut, with three white stockings, and is also w.ell. grown for! her age. The Arausios are • usually brown or bay, but this filly has thrown to her dam, who is a chestnut, though her earlier foals have been bays. Hinewehi. is not so forward as Henry of Navarre, and she will not race till about Easter. Goodman has made room in his stable by returning Araemo, Valquette, and Wee Night to their owners. Concentrate Better. Concentrate has made a complete recovery, from .the,'shoulder, trouble that prevented: him-from' racing last Week, and he was-out working .this morning* winding up with six. furlongs on the plough in lmin: 25sec-•'.', He has engagements at Hawera and New Plymouth/ and if he goes on right, he will keep them. Oratovian, Concentrate's two-year-old half-brother, was also out doing steady pace work, and he looks none the worse for last week's racing. He'will-not carry silk again till the next Wellington Meeting. There is a possibility1 that-H.' B. Lorigan will take Concentrate and Oratorian to Australia for the autumn racing, but no definite arrangements.have yet been made. . DuleTti and Perlede Leon'. 'The only visiting trainer, who has not yet left Trentham is: P. T. Hogan, who brought Dulen •'•' up from Washdyke. Hogan ' has -his, eye on northern; two-year-old races, and it is possible that he will re-. turn' to :the Northern the" autumn. Last ■week Hogan took • charge of; the steeplechaser Perle de Leon,. who was out on .the track this morning, but is looking a long way' off racing shape yet. Perle de Leon has joined up with Hogan's team, arid, if he stands up to another, preparation, he .will do his racing over the South Island timber this winter. Crown Area's Brother. Jhe: yearling colt by Acre from Moorefietd, passed for 250 guineas at the yearling sales last week, has been secured privately by a patron of P. T. Hogan's stables. He is a brother to Crown Area, a good winner when trained here by G-. W. New, and later by the late J. M'Comjbe. This colt was one of the most attractive in looks to be. offered at the sale, and some good judges have predicted a successful racing career for him. Stallions Arrive. . The, two imported stallions, Iliad and Siegfried, Arrived at the "week-end by the Rualline. \ The former is remaining on board until the vessel reaches Lyttelton, but the latter was landed, and made a

favourable impression with those who viewed him. Siegfried, who is by Son-in-law from Fire Mist, by Sunstar from Lorgnette, by Isinglass from Cralinuc, by Calopin, was bred by Lord Howard de Walden, and lias been imported by Mr. R. Holden, of Hawkes Bay. He brings to New Zealand'a Hew line of the Nb.'l family. Iliad, as already announced, is by Swynford from Pagan Sacrifice by, Cicero .from Simony by Common from _ Simon's j Bay by St, Simou, and has been imported to the Dominion by the Blderslie Stud Co., Ltd. Arrowsmlth Dies. 'Die stallion Arrowsmith (Chaucer—Sagitta) contracted an internal complaint, and died a few days ago. Arrowsmith was bred in England in 1915, and was imported by Mr. J. N. Heslop in 1919. He proved himself a high-class performer while in training, among his successes being the C.J.C. Stewards-Handicap in 1920, under

the record weight of 9st 131b, the Greater Easter o£ the same year under Bst 131b, and also the 1920 Thompson Handicap under 9st 91b. At the stud Arrowsmith has left some useful performers. Toxeuma is his best representative. H. Gray's Lead. ] New Zealand's leading horseman, H. Gray, rode his fiftieth winuetl of the season when lie scored on Dulen in the Nursery Handicap at Trentham on Thursday, and now .has a lead of 22 over H. Wiggins, who is his nearest rival on the winning jockeys' list with a tally of 28 wins.. Best of the others are: A. E. Ellis, 23; K. Voitre, 23; B. H. Morris, 22; H. Goldfinch, 20; T. Green, 19; L. J. Ellis, 19; and C. Goulsbro, 15. Last season Gray topped the list of winning horsemen with 75 wing, and present 'indications are that lie will eclipse that total this term, of which there is still six months to go. Odds and Ends. Nominations for the Wanganui Jockey, Club's Autumn Meeting close at; 9 o'clock on Frjday evening', • Acceptances for the first day of the Egmont Racing Club's Summer Meeting close at '8.30 on Friday evening. ■'■> ',-,■; Fedora, ,7st 12Tb, was omitted frpm the list of acceptors for the Calliope Handieapi at Takapuna on Thursday. Her'rehandicap was 51b for her win at Trentham. Mr.: W. K. Kemball has decided to: be represented at the C.J.C. Midsummer Meeting, and George Jones will go down with Lady Pam.'Cape Gold, Maritime, and Spearlad. . Footfall has broken down, and his case looks so serious that, he may hot be raced again. At his best he was a 'good horse, a solid stayer, and he numbered a Dunedin Cup among his successes. The bay colt from Hunting Song from the Catmint mare Gaimint, who was passed, in, at the yearling sales for 85 guineas, has been secured by Mr. W. E. Kemball from'his breeder (Mr, P. Goodman, Gisborne) :•■■';-".■■ , The yearling filly- by Silverado from -Limelight; passed at the.Trentham sales, has been disposed of privately' by her breeders, Messrs.- J. \V. and L. W, Storry, of Christchurch, to Mrs. W. D. Graham, New Plymouth. \ The youngster comes from a* very successful family, so her fiiture.will.be invested, with considerable interest! ."■■ ~•'•• .■ : ' The:'Absurd—Tahua geWing Freehold' has been sold by Mr: W. MA. Duncan to Messrs. M'Leod and Slater, of Hastings. Freehold should be a good proposition: round some of the minor - meetings, for there is no question ; that he "has speed above the ordinary.. ;, -
