BRITISH AIRCRAFT
IF TROPHY IS LOST
EFFECT ON EXPORT TRADE
(Received 26th January, noon.)
LONDOX, 25th January.
The Society of British Aircraft Constructors has forwarded a. circular letter to: all members of the House of Lords, urging a reconsideration, of the House of Commons' Schneider Trophy decisions. They point out that the loss of the trophy by default would strike a serious blow at the export trade of the industry. " .
The Government decided on . the score of expense to refrain from defending the Schneider Trophy against Prance and Italy in September. In consequence, Royal Air Force pilots are debarred from taking part. Sir Phillip Sasson, chairman of the Royal Aero Club, has disclosed that the club has offered to raise £80,000 necessary to defend; the Schneider Trophy conditionally on the Government lending machines and pilots. .
Unless the Government's previous refusal is withdrawn; within a day or two, it will be too late to enter, and the contest is not:likely to be held in Britain. '.
