MATTSON AT AUCKLAND
DEFEATS AUSTRALIANS
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, 25th January. The defeat of several noted Australian riders at the hands of the Auckland.ohampioD, A. Mattson, was watched by a large crowd at Western Springs Speedway on Saturday night. Mattson, who was riding a new machine, won the Southern Cross Handicap from S. Perkins, of Australia, holder of the one lap record, and beat C. Anderson, of Australia, in the final of the Guy Menzies Stakes. The fastest time of the evening was made by J. Bishop, of Australia,. who covered the'four lap* in lmin 21 2-ssec. Results are as follow:— Southern Cross Handicap.—A. Mattson, scr., 1; S. Perkins (Australia),»ißcr, 2. Time, lmin 29 2-ssec.
