A free light ended a mass meeting of several thousands in the East End, where it was arranged to open a discussion between Nazis and Communists.The latter's spokesman opened the de» bate. At the conclusion of. his speech a large bodyguard escorted him to bis comrades. . \ Hen- Gocbels, the Nazi leader, attempting to reply, was immediately shouted down, which was a breach of the promise of the Prussian Commua« ists' deputy who arranged the meeting. ' ■..-■■• Pandemonium broke out, assailants 'fighting with fists, beor mugs, and chair legs.- Police, hidden behind the curtains and in adjoining rooms, dashed in and plied their truncheons. Over, a hundred were injured, includng manj" women.' There were many arrests.
