THE MAYORALTY
A NEW CANDIDATE?
NOBODY KNOWS YET
From what can be gathered, the position in regard to candidates for the Mayoralty is again much in doubt, but after all that is in .accord with preelection arrangements and re-arrange-tnents for quite .a few municipal elections past. Mr. Troup has stated definitely that he will not be a candidate, and the Civic League has therefore to decide upon another gentleman for nomination. The Ratepayers' Association some time ago announced its candidate, but now, it is stated, tho position is less clear. , It is not likely, however, that both the Ratepayers' Association and the Civic League will nominate candidates, and, it is understood, steps have already been taken, by preliminary conferences, for the two bodies to get together and discuss the whole question anew. ~ . , Quite a, number of names haVe been mentioned, more or less officially, as those of possible candidates, but it is too early in the day, in view of the peculiar position, to ~ state anything definitely. .
