AIR TRANSPORT OF GOLD
LONDON, 19th January. Despite the Franco-British conversations of the past few days, the drain of gold to Paris continues, a large proportion being transported by aeroplane. A convoy of four machines, conveying £500,000 worth of gold, left Croydon for Paris this afternoon. One carrying £80,000 worth of gold was forced down in Kent and turned on its nose. Armed pilots mounted guard. The gold later was taken by boat and train to Paris. To-day's transfer by the Bank of England to the Bank of France totalled £1,500,000. >
