A SEASIDE RESORT

(To the Editor.) Sir, —As a reluctant ratepayer and an upholder of decency and civic sanitation, the writer wishes to enter his protest against • the utter lack Of interest shown by the Mayor and councillors o£ Wellington in the Cinderella of city reserves, known as Scorching Bay.' Should the gentlemen mentioned —or any of the city's large staff—visit this bay on any fine Sunday .- they would find upwards of fifty motor-cars and lorries parked at this charmipg spot, and the occupants-of these vehicles enjoying their week-end, picnic. Moreover, an intelligent onlooker, would observe the City Council's buses bringing large numbers of long suffering citizens to disport themselves upon what have been termed, "the golden sands of Scorching Bay." In short the bay is a popular seaside resort. Now, what has the City Council done in the. way of decency and sanitation? Nothing. Men, women, and Children have to dißrobe, and having bathed to dry and dress themselves in the public view. There, is no bathing shelter at Scorching Bay. Other bays have shelters, behind which the bashful bather may hide the details of his toilet, so why not Scorching Bay? A much, more seriqns matter is the utter lack of any lavatory accommodation at the bay. One can only stigmatise the result as a standing reproach to the Mayor and councillors of Wellington. That such a. menace to the health of the community should be tolerated by the officials of New Zealand's capital city is astounding.—l am, etc., SANITATION.
