BEEF MARKET
BIG DROP IN PRICES
(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evening Post.") INVERCARGILL, This Day. Substantial falls occurred in .the beef market at the Lorneville Stock Market yesterday, and fat cattle reached the lowest levels for some years. It was freely remarked that the bottom appeared to have fallen out of the market, and even at the extremely low prices which ruled towards the latter end of the sale buyers did not appear to be greatly interested. Ox beef values dropped to about 25s per ewt., with cow and heifer beef estimated at £1 per cwt? A prominent local butcher stated after the sale that it was likely that the reduced values for stock would have some effect on the price of beef, and a reduction could be expected shortly. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson, and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., have received the following advice:— "Wool, merino crossbred, 15 per cent, cheaper. Competition fair. Very little buying now on France's account."'
