A VITAL INFLUENCE
Colours are vital things in the makeup of every personality, and have a more far-reaching effect, not only on (he characters of human beings, but on their conduct, than almost any other influence, states an overseas writer. If a person of sensitive nature and tastes is compelled to live in a room with walls that clash with all that appeals to his ov her particular idea of beauty, it is odd to watch the change that gradually takes place in the nature of that man or woman. less when in that room. As soon as they leave it and get out into the fresh air, or even into another room, that gloom is immediately lifted, and the old nature returns. Tho wrong colour was sapping their life-blood. Unfolding of character as years go on can be watched by tho different choice of colours that come with tho advance of time. As children wo so often love tho pale shades —pale pink and pale blue. "Little Boy Blue" of the nursery rhyme must be dressed in pale blue for the Christmas pantomime. Cinderella must invariably wear pale pink for the ball.
In youth wo choose the vital colours —orange, red, and green. In life's later years wo slip back to the days of childhood and choose the pastel shades, but this time the wisdom of ago is intermingled, and roauves and groy-blues take the place of the hues we loved in childhood.
Doctors are becoming more and more awaro bow important it is that sick and convalescent patients should be surrounded by harmonious colours if they aro to make a quick recovery. We most of us have a favourite dress that we frequently put on because we - are happy in it. Have you ever thought that the reason for this is because it is your colour that it is made of, and, therefore, you are responding to its influence all the time? It may sound odd, but in nine cases out of ten it is so. Get to know which colour gives you ths most complete rest when, you wear it, and, if you can, stick to it.
