B STATIONS' USE OF RECORDS
Tlie annual report of the Manawatu Radio Club, which operates a small broadcasting station (2ZF) three nights a week, states that as from Ist January, the club will have to pay the Australasian Performing Eights Association a fee for the right to broadcast records. "Our share is a nominal one, which the management committee considers reasonable.' The thanks of the chib are due to the Australasian Performing Eights Association for their very fair treatment in the matter of composers' performing rights, of which they have control. The matter of use of records lent to us by Messrs. Coles, Ltd., took a serious turn in November, when all gramophone dealors in New Zealand were forbidden to loan records to a ■broadcasting station. The thanks of the club are due to Messrs. Coles, Ltd., for their great help in the past, but they had no option but to obey the mandate of the gramophone corporations. The position now is that, although the performing rights have been satisfactorily settled, the club can <wly
use its own gramophono records, or those lent by listeners. Accordingly, an appeal has been made, and over 4000 records have been promised to date for the club's use."
