A KING AMONG DOGS
On. the icy waters of th« St. Lairreneo Biver in Canada, where it3 wateri open out to the sea, a police dog ha» won new laurels for all the other dog* of its profession. King was the police dog's name. H« belonged to a member of the St. Lawrenco boat erew and went with th* ■boat on its voyage. As the boat heeled over in a. wintw, ■quail a man slipped and plnnged overboard into the freezing water tliroajjS the layer of ice on it. By some long-iuherited instinct the dog knew exactly what should be done, and without hesitating a moment went in after the man—who, as it happened, could not swim. King gripped the man's clothing in.his strong teeth and came up with him to the surface. The two were hauled aboard, ana King shook himself and thought no more about it.
