WADESTOWN
The Parish Hall was crowded on Thursday evening for tho "break-up" of the Wadestown School. ' Mr. A. Pariane, chairman of tho School Committee, presided. A short programme was presented by the pupils. Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., briefly addressed tho gathering. He referred to tho excellent work done by school committees. Their assistance in the interests of the school was invaluable. He briefly emphasised "character building" as- the most important phase of school work. With the- development of character would come initiative, without which success in life was Impossible. Mr. Wright also distributed tho prizes and certificates. During tho evening the headmaster, Mr. 5. W. Ferguson, was "presented by his standard t! pupils with a handsome barometer, and Mrs. Ferguson with a pair of crystal vasea and a beautiful bouquet. Mr. Ferguson mentioned that at tho Wellington Girls' College four of his former pupils had become dux of- their respective ■ forms this year. The following was tho prize list:— Dux prizes: Form 11., dux of school and gold medallist, Neville Smith; runner-up, Margaret Gwynn. Form I.: Ada Jorgensen. Standard 4: Mary Withors. Standard 3: Barbara Ferguson. Standard 2: Alan Bryenton. Standard 1 : James Hanna. P. 3: Betty Booth. Special Sowing Prizes: Standard 2, Janet Ferguson. Standard 1, Margaret Miller, Audrey Booth, Patricia Ferguson. Tennis Prizes.—School champion: Girl, Dulcie Stafford; boy, Malcolm Frazer. Combined doubles, Betty Qullter, Ken James. Special attendance prize, awarded to . Isabel King, who has received seven attendance certificates consecutively. Protlclency certificates (gained by all tho pupils of Form ll).—Margaret Gwynn, Joyce Englert, Joyce Hyalls, Isabel King, Marjory Lapsley, Una Philip, Dulclo Stafford, May Kelly, Patricia M'Gahey, Sheila Feltham, Leslie Gray, Neville Smith, Ivan Cochraue, Malcolm Fraser, Bruce Emsley, Ken Clarkson, Ken James, ltobert Bass. Ray Hedges, Robert Smith, Edward Goodwin, Derek Grainger, Peter Hay, Keith Harrison. A number of swimming and attendance certificates were also presented.
