LODGE MEETINGS

The quarterly meeting of Mewburn Lodge, Xo. 90, U.A.O.D. was presided over by A.D. Bro. E. Standidge, and was well attended. Visitors were present from Pacific, Excelsior, and Island Bay Lodges. Lodge business being disposed of, a public installation of officers took place. Installing Officer D.P. Bro. O. H. Benge carried out the ceremony as follows: A.D., Bro. Straiton; J.P.A., Bro. E. Black and Crawford; nomination for D.P. No. 2 District, P.S. Bro. V: Lyall; G.L. delegate, P.S. Bro. F. Lyall; delegate to Medical Institute and Hospital Association, P.A. Bro. Cathie; Press reporter, P.A. Bro. F. E. Matthews. After the ceremony, dancing ivas indulged in, the supper arrangements being in the hands of P.A. Bro. Haliburton. The quarterly meeting of Poneko Lodge, No. 21, U.A.0.D., was held recently. A.D, Bro. Spargo presided over a large attendance. The election of officers for the ensuing term resulted as follows: A.D., Bro. Condon; V.A., Bro. Beven; treasurer, Bro. A. L. Parker, P.A.; J.G., Bro. Brown; A.G., Bro. Cherry, P.A.; A.D. Bards, Bros. Wilton and Merrilees; V.A. Bards, Bros. Horrock and S. King; M.C., Bro. Cox, P.D.P.; minutes secretary, Bro. E. W. Srayrk, P.A.; stewards, Bros. S. King and Woolford, P.A.; Grand Lodge Delegate, Bro. A. L. Williams, P.S.; Dispensing Board Delegates, Bros. Brown and W. B. Gough, P.D.P.; pianist, Bro. Vauu, P.A. Sick pay amounting to £12 12s was passed. P.A. Bro. J. Lock, of Pride of Westland Lodge, paid the Lodge a visit, and received a hearty welcome. The. half-yearly meeting of Coronation Lodge, No. 26, U.A.0.D., was ' well attended and presided over by Bro. A. Robinson, A.D. An official visit was paid by the District President of No. 21 District (Bro. J. Crewes), who was accorded Druidic honours. Visitors were also present from Excelsior, Pacific, Mewburn, Island Bay, and . Melrose Lodges. The Bards' reports on sick members were received. Reports regai-ding dispensary and Medical Institute were given by delegates, and Brother Mollison submitted a report re the X.A.C., which was considered at length. Brother Mollison's notice of motion re Grand Lodge meetings was carried. A further notice of motion re period of office, moved by Brother J. Phillips, was referred to a special committee to report. The Benevolent Committee was instructed to review the position of several brothers. Officers for the incoming term were installed by Brother Crewes. A hearty vote of thanks for services rendered by Brother A. E. Smith on attaining the position of P.A. was carried by acclamation. The half-yearly balance: sheet was read by the secretary, and disclosed the- finances in a sound position. The third annual meeting and installation of office-bearers of the Order of the Eastern Star, Caledonia' Chapter, No. 293, took place in the Empire Hall" recently, there being a large attendance. The following were installed: Sister Jessie Kirkland, Worthy Matron; Bro. J. K. Burnett, Worthy Patron; Sister Jeauie- Salmond, Associate Matron; Bro. T. Kirk; Organist, Sister Annie Taylor; Warden, Sister Isabella Shearer; Sentinel, Br'o. G. Clements; Adah, Sister Nan Brown; Ruth, Sister Mary Arbuthnott; Esther, Sister Mary Wilson; Martha, Sister Jeanie Goodwin; Electa, Sister Jessie Hogg. Bro. J C. Stirling was installing officer. Sister Annio Paxtou, I.P. Matron, Installing Matshal; Sister Rachel Clemments, P. Matron, Assistant Marshal, and Bro. David Paxtpn, Installing Chaplain. The immediate Past Matron, Sister Annie Paxton, was presented with a clock, and Bro. J. C. Stirling with a " gent's ■ companion from members for services' rendered during the past year. Both recipients suitably replied. The Worthy Matron presented Sister Annie Paxton with a leather purse, Sister Rachel Clements with a jam dish, Bro. J. C. Stirling with a'gold tie pin, and Bro. David Paxton with a wallet. The recipients replied. Worthy Matron Sister Jessie Kirkland presented Sister Annie Paxton, 1.P.M., with ■ a bouquet of flowers. ■. , ". The yearly summoned meeting of Court Lady Glasgow, No. 5261, A.0.F., was held last week, C.R. Sis. Arnet presiding, assisted by P.C.R. Sis. A. Morris. There was a good attendance. A hearty welcome- was extended to Sis. M'Laughlan, who paid' the court a visit after several years' absence. The election of officers resulted as follows:—C.R., Sis. Ten nan t; S.C.R., Sis. Lawton; secretary to' Social Committee, Sis. H. Lawton. . At the conclusion of the meeting members entertained friends to a social evening. Recitations were given, by Miss- Nancy Potter. Dancing was much enjoyed, excellent music being supplied, by Mrs. Robb, and Mr. J. Chambers. At the conclusion a vote of thanks was passed to all who.'had1 made the social evenings a success during the year. . .. --

' The quarterly meeting. of Court Sir George Bowen, A.0.F., was held last week, C.R. Bro. R. H. Hunter presiding over a good attendance. One new member was initiated. Season's greetings were received from Court Zealaudia, Auckland, through Bro. C. Meek, who was a visitor. An important item in the order paper of the evening was the nomination of the officers for the ensuing half-year. The following were nominated for the respective offices:—C.R., Bro. A. E. The regular meeting of Court Sir William Jervois, No. 7609, A.0.F., was held last week. C.R. Bro. G. Parker presided over a veFy large attendance. Oue new member was proposed. The C.R., Bro. G. Parker, cordially welcomed sisters and brothers of the various' courts, who numbered about 60, fraternal greetings being given and exchanged. The C.R. adjourned the meeting for the purpose of holding a "veterans' night" to entertain the oldest sisters, and brothers of the Order. The chairman, Bro. G. Parker,' proposed the toast of "Our King," and Bro. G. H. Canproposed the toast of "The Veterans," which was responded to by Bro. G. H. Hall, sen. Bro. C. F. Worth proposed the toast of.the "District Executive," responded to by Bro. F. S. Hoy. The toast of the "Ladies'' was proposed by Bro. G. E. Taylor, and responded to by Sis. Lawton. Several of the "veterans" gave some amusing stories of the past history of the Order, and various other items were rendered: A hearty vote of thanks and appreciation was accorded Sis. Anset for her untiring efforts in bringing together such a successful gathering. Bro. W. Clayton presided at the piano.

The weekly session of Star of Wellington Lodge, No. 12, 1.0. G.T1., was held recently. Bro. J. Harris, Chief Templar, presided. Visiting members were present from Pioneer Lodge, St. Thomas's, and Sunbeam Temple. Recess was granted after the usual business had been dealt with, and Bro. Simpson welcomed visitors. Songs, recitations, etc., were thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by the adults. Bro. Harris, C.T., congratulated the juveniles on the performance. Sis. Keith, C.T. of the Juvenile Temple, suitably responded. Oceau View Juvenile Temple, No. 19, 1.0. G.T., held its weekly session last week in the Ilaughton Valley Hall. The meeting was opened by Bro. Lance Cheuton, C.T., assisted by Bro. Trevithick, Supt., and Sis. W. E. Furby, Ass.- Supt. Members of Trinity Juvenile Temple, accompanied by Supt. Sis. Furby, sen., and Ass. Supt. Bro. Furby, were also present, and were officially received and welcomed. Recess was granted, and items were given by members of Ocean View and Trinity Temples. Star of Newtown Lodge, No. 2i, 1.0.-, G.T., held its weekly session last week* I Bro. Trevelyan, C.T., presiding. Visitors present were Bro. Price, Grand Sec, and two bros. of the Rechabite Lodge, who were paying a return official visit. When recess was granted, community singing was carried out. C.T. Bro. Thompson presided at a good meeting of Loyal Melrose Lodge, No. 53, 1.0. G.T., held last week. Bro. Petherick, D.T.C.T., was welcomed by Bro. Trevithick, and suitably replied.
