NEW STREET OPENED

EAST-WEST ROUTE THROUGH ,PETONE

The extension of Udy street, Petone, to join Cuba street has been completed by the Petonc Borough Council, and yesterday the new street was officially opened by the Mayor (Mr. D. M'Kenzie) in the presence of a large gathering of citizens and visitors. The Mayor said that there had previously boon only two streets providing a connection between . east and west, Esplanade and. Jackson street. Tho completion of this last section'of Udy street had provided a third way for traffic to cross, the borough. It would bo a decided advantage to the community an,a great convenience. Tho Mayor gave credit.to tho previous Borough Council for what it had done in initiating the scheme. The p.wsent council had" finalised' the matter, and tho formation of. the street was done as an unemployment • relief work. v Mr. M'Kcnssic theu cut tho white ribbon stretched across the 'roadway,- and declared tho new street open.
