GRANT TO COUNCIL REFUSED
In reply to his application to the Unemployment Board for a grant of £.250 to give relief to single unemployed men in the borough before Christmas, the Mayor of Petono (Mr. D. M'Kcnzic) has"received the following telegram:— "Board not making direct grants.-Local
committee operating in your district has received allocation of £250 under; Sell erne Two." There are at present 86 Petonemen. employed on the Kor.a Koro road widening work. The council has hotv reached f!io limit of what it can do for the. unemployed, and those still without work will have to rely on the local Unemployment Committee,
