MATCH AT ADELAIDE
WEST INDIES V. AUSTRALIA
United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Cojiyright. ADELAIDE, loth December. The weather and the wicket were excellent for the continuation, of the Test match, but^he attendance was poor. Kippax/»hnd Fairfax took the score to 341, botl! playing soundly, until the former tipped- Griffiths, giving an easy catch to Barrow behind the wickets. He played a great innings at an opportune time, batting i'or 229 minutes, aud hitting eighteen fours. Fairfax, making delightful lafce. cuts, reached 34 by a hard leg-side six off Scott. Oldficld was uncomfortable before the fast bowlers. He had two lives, and then drove Scott for four, but -was caught at mid-oft' at the next ball. Grimmctt failed to connect with the first ball from Scott, -who also got Hurwood caught at short-leg before he scored. Scott at this stage had taken three 'wickets in six balls. Wall lasted three balls, then fell legbefore to Scott. The innings occupied 341 minutes. Fairfax batted for three hours and hit three fours and one six. Roach was just settling down when he was bowled by Hurwood. Headley had a lucky escape early in his innings, and he batted nicely till he was completely baffled by Grimmett, and Oldfield whipped off his bails. Two wickets were down for 47. Birkett was resourceful, and made some nice cover shots, but in trying short runs, JMartin was run out following a smart return from mid-off by Bradman. Constantine was vigorous, fitting eleven off three balls from Hurwood, and was . unlucky to play one from Grimmett on to his wicket. Biru-ett reached G4 and then was put but in exactly the same manner as Head]oy. He batted 102 minutes and hit live 4's, displaying a. variety o£ attractive strokes. Five wickets were down, for 115. Bartlett sparkled and drove Hurwood for successive boundaries; then he sent one straight to Grimmett at cover-point. Grant and Barrow were spasmodic, the latter concentrating on blocking Grimmett. They battled hard for odd runs. The fielding was spectacular. Grant was in 117 minutes for 50. With the last ball of the day Barrow was put out, legbefore, to Bradman. Details follow:— AUSTRALIA.
