BOY'S GALLANTRY

HUMANE SOCIETY'S AWAED

At a meeting of the Wellington Centre, A.S.A., last evoning. a framed certificate was presented'by the Eoyal Humane Society to Sidney Grounsell, who, last January, when he was a pupil at tho Clyde Quay School, rescued a boy from drowning in the Boat Harlour. .' The presentation was made by Mr. P. Eraser, M.P. . Mr. P. Coira, chairman of the Wellington Centre, said that on hearing a cry for help Grounsell sprang into the water fully clothed, and but for his prompt action the boy would have been drowned. Mr. H..E. Fisher, educational officer to tho centre, referred to Grounsell's promptitude and the resource he displayed when older people were at a loss to know what to do. It was foTtunato that ho was within call, as if there had been any more delay the boy would have been lost. It was a good illustration of the value of encouraging and fostering swimming in tho schools. In making the presentation Mr. Fraser said: "I do not think you will achieve any higher honour; I do not think it possible to achieve any higher honour than tho medals and certificates of the Eoyal Humane Society. . . You are fortunate that the opportunity came your way and that you rose to the occasion. You could not have done that but for the centre's educational work in tho schools." Mr. Coira congratulated Mr. Grounsell on behalf of the society, which, he said, did not bestow its honours lightly; all its awards were well earned.
