Miss A ilsa Nelson, Tinakori road, who has spent the past year in England, returned to Wellington this j morning by the Marama from Sydney. Mrs. J. Westall, - Christcliureli, who has been visiting England, returned to New Zealand ■ to-day by the Coriuthic. Mrs. Alfred Evans, Huntsbury Hill, Canterbury, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. B. Caughlcy, Kelbuin. Mrs. W. Priest, Timaru, is the guest of! her daughter, Mrs. George Shirtcliff'e, Tinakori road. Mrs. Lloyd Clay, Wellington, returned to-day by the Marama from Sydney after some months in the Old Country. : Mrs. H. H. Miss Lcttiee Loughnan, Christchurch, will arrive in Wellington to-morrow morning en route to Otane, Hawkes Bay, where she will spend the holidays with her parents. Miss Mary Menzies, Christchureli, will arrive in Wellington next week. She will visit her grandmother, Mrs. Willis, Bangitikoi, and later will spend a fortnight in Wellington. Miss Bona Blakiston (Orari Gorge) and Miss Muriel Orford ("The Downs," Geraldine), who have been visiting England, returned to Wellington this morning by the Marama from Sydney. Miss Peggy Williams, accompanied by her cousin, Miss Mary Williams, Dorset, England, arrived in Wellington this morning by the Marama from Sydney, and will visit her aunt, Mrs. J. Mowbray Tripp, Geraldine. Mrs. James Cumming, who has been the guest of Miss Coldieutt, Auckland, has returned to Wellington. j Mrs. J. Hannah returned to-day from Sydney where she has been staying for some months past. Dr. Sylvia Chapman returned to Wellington from Sydney to-day by the Marama. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Watson, Wellington, are visitors to Christcliuroli. Mrs. E. Luttrell, Mrs. Caro, Mr. and Mrs. H. Teagle, Mr. and Mrs. W. Gregory, and Mi-, and Mrs. W. Nash were among the passengers who arrived in Wellington to-ilay by the Marama from Sydney. Mrs. M. M'MiJlan, bead typisto of the Lower Hutt Borough Council office, who has resigned her position, received a presentation yesterday afternoon from the office. staff. Mr. B. S. Knox, I the Town Clerk, handed her, on behalf of the staff, si set of crystal, comprising a decanter, water jug, and goblets. She was also given a silver card case. A very pleasing little function took place at the warehouse of Messrs. C. B. Lemprierc and Co.. Ltd., on the occasion of the departure of Miss D. Cooper (after several 3'cars' service), who is to be married. Mr. M'Phee, \ o» behalf,of the staff, presented Miss Cooper with a silver teapot. Mr. C. B. Lempriore, on behalf of the directors, presented Miss Cooper with a cheque and a suitcase filled with things for the new home. A very pleasant afternoon tea was given by the staff of the Child Welfare District Office and friends for Miss Ida Dorset. The tables were tastefully de- j coratcd with sweetpeas and Scotch mangolds. Miss O'Shea spoke on behalf of the staff, also Mesdames Johnston, Belworthy, and Dick. Miss Dorset was presented with a nosegay of sweet scented "old world" flowers, and was also the recipient of several valu- j able gifts, the staff giving her two I beautiful crystal vases and a Shelley china cup, saucer, and plate. Heartiest wishes for her future happiness in married life were expressed, and the enjoyable little function closed with the singing of "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow."
