CEEISTCHURCH BENEFITS

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHBISTCHITBCH, This Day. A valuable block of land has been given to the people of Greater Christchurch by Mr. T. J. Edmonds in order to mark 'the 'eightieth anniversary of the founding of the- province. The land is at the corner of Wainoni and Kiver roads, and adjoins the riverside boulevard. This is the second valuable gift which Mr. Edmonds has made to the city. In order to celebrate fifty years of reaidenco here, he presented the citizens with a band rotunda and a clock tower. The land is to be held in trust as a public reserve. Mr. Edmonds has expressed a desire that permission be given for the placing of a suitable memorial to the late Professor Bickerton in. a corner of the reserve.
