NEW PLYMOUTH DOINGS
LADY QUEX IN GOOD FORM
(By Telegraph.)
(Special to "The Evening Post.")
NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day.
The small contingent ot three horses that went from New Plymouth to Feilding more than paid their way. 'Lady Quex annexed, the Feilding Stakes, Orapai the hack sis the first day, and Crennatown a third in the hack mile and a distance. Lady Quex went very well over two furlongs on Thursday morning, and looks to have* been improved by her race. So far her owner has not decided whether she ■will go to Ellerslie for the Eailway or tackle the Stakes at Palmerston, but wherever she goes she will make her presence felt. Though Orapai has lightened up a little, he is in great heart, and his owner (Mrs. W. D. Graham) should pick up at least two races during the holiday season. He will not take long to run out of hacks. So far he has not been tried further than six furlongs, but later on a distance of ground should not be beyond him. Crennatowu went a creditable race the first day at Feilding', but failed to jump out the second day, and was never out oi" the ruck. Nevertheless he is improving, aud on a big track will go a lot better than he did last week. It is possible, for .this reason, that he may do his Christmas racing at Awapuni. • Nothing is doing better at present than Koyal Finance. The Paper Money mare is working very well, and, with Gray in the saddle, was responsible for a great half-mile on Tuesday. She. is being 'prepared for the Hack Cup here on Boxing Day. Mrs. Graham's two-year-olds, Easter Time and Gibraltar, are both doing all that is being asked of them, aud doing it well. Their three furlongs iir 39sec on Thursday morning, on the outside.of the course proper, was a very pleasing effort. K. Johnson is beginning to tune Belle Star up, and, though she has not been asked to go very fast, her five furlongs on Tuesday showed that she^ has not forgotten the way to gallop. She has built up into a massive looking mare, and weight should not trouble her. Omeo has improved wonderfully in'looks since the winter and one would not recognise the ordinary looking angular horse that contested the big steeples. He has developed all round, and is a- classylooking customer. His full brother, Moerangi, who injured himself slightly when he fell at Cambridge ou Labour Day, is expected to rejoin W. Mantle's string this week.
