The market for beef is depressed owing to heavy supplies of Argentine. Low prices of other foodstuffs are cheeking the demand for NewZealand . meat. . . ■ Messrs. Levin and Co.'s cablegram, London, sth December, reads:—"As compared v/ith last week's quotations, best North Island crossbred lamb, 36/421b, l-8d per lb lower; best North Island wethers j 48/72 lb, l-8d per lb lower;. North Island ewes, 64/721b, l-8d per lb lower;-New Zealand prime ox beef, 1-Sd per lb lower. The spot market is quiet."
