BUTTER IN CANADA
MARKET DEMORALISED
(Eeceived 20th November, 1.20 p.m.) VICTORIA, 8.C., 19th Nov. The British Columbia butter market is depressed to far below cost of production, it was stated at a meeting here of the Advisory Board of the Farmers' Institutes of this province. The demoralisation is said to be attributable substantially to the Australian Trada, Treaty. A secondary factor. of great and immediate importance is the recent enormous importation of butter from New Zealand. It was stated that huge shipments of New Zealand -were now in! cold storage in the province awaiting release the moment prieeJ show dgns of recovery. ' Much butter had entered Canada on consignment to brokers to sell at the best prices obtainable, and by virtue of the absence of a stated price it did not come within the provisions of the antidumping clause. A resolution was passed asking the Minister for Trade and Commerce to take immediate steps to protect the. dairy, sheep, and allied primary industries from further demoralisation.
