COUNCILLOR WRIGHT TO STAND
— ' RATEPAYERS'. ASSOCIATION REQUEST
Acceding to a request made to him | to-day by the Wellington City Bate- j payers' Association, Councillor R. A. Wright, M.P., chairman of the Works Committee of the City Council, intimated that he would be, prepared to contest the Mayoralty next April. The deputation consisted of tho full committee of ' the association, the spokesman being Mr. H. H. Miller, the chairman. Mr. Miller pointed out that with the retirement from office of Mr. Troup the position had been clarified to 'a certain extent, and the association considered that Councillor Wright was the best possible man to serve the city as Mayor. He had had great experience in municipal matters, and the deputation was convinced that he would receive the hearty support of the citizens generally. Replying, Councillor Wright said he appreciated the honour of being asked Ito contest the Mayoralty. With the ' retirement of the present Mayor the ground would be cleared, and he would give his decision to the association's request in the affirmative.
