CO-OPERATION WITH ARABS
ADVICE TO JEWS
(British Official Wireless.) BUGBY, 18th November. During the debate in tie House of Commons last night on Palestine, the Under-Secrctary for tho Colonies, Dr. Drummond Shicls, announced that Britain would make itself responsible for the Palestine development loan of £.2,500,000. The object of the scheme is, first, to find land for Arab peasants who have been displaced by Jewish settlers, and, -secondly, to provide in addition for further Arab and Jewish settlement. In all it is hoped that 10,000 families will be placed on the land in this way. The rest of the debate was mainly concerned with a discussion, on the Government's recent "White Paper. , On behalf of the Government, both Dr. Shiels and the Prime Minister spoke, reiterating the Government's intentions to stand by the full mandate and carry out the policy of the- .1922 White Paper, as they had done in the past. Every opportunity would be given for the establishment of a national homo for Jews, consistent with the obligations imposed on the Government by "the other side of the mandate, and to work for the prosperity and happiness of the whole country. | The Prime Minister said that tho Jews must believe that the Government would go as fast as it could within, eco- j nomic limits, and so as to promote economic unity. He paid a fine tribute to their development work and.to the genera] benefits the Jews had conferred on the country. They need only realise that a Jewish national home could best bo promoted by economic co-operation with the Arabs. The Government was already in consultation, with the Zionists aiid would welcome similar touch with the Arabs.
