CHRISTCHUBCH, 19th Nov, "This man is a qualified accountant and, therefore, 'iaving a fair knowledge of business methods, ho cannot make the excuso that he did not understand what.he was doing," said his Honour Mr. Justice Adams when refusing Alfred Herbert Rudd, an agent, a discharge from bankruptcy. "The public have to be protected as i'ar as tho Court can do so against men like this." Of twelve applications for discharge, only five were granted unconditionally. "It is undesirable that married womon should bo let loose on tho commercial community without first paying somo penalty," stated his Honour in granting, but suspending for six months, an application by Annie Howson for discharge from, bankruptcy. Mr. Cottroll, for the bankrupt, stated that the bankruptcy was occasioned mainly through the applicant getting a motor-car, in which she ran about all over the country. She had several smashes, and most of the debts were owing to garages.
