ON TRENTHAM TRACK

FINAL TRIALS FOR LEVIN

GOOD TIMES ARE RECORDED The weather was again fine, and the track was in good order for galloping at Trentham this morning. The out : side of the trial grass and the tan were available, but practically all tlio work was done on the grass. Most of the horses who are to go to Levin were given their final trials. Open Cheque, alone, reeled oft' half a mile in 49 l-ssec, coming home tho last three furlongs in 3G 3-ssec. This three-year-old has done two excellent trials this week, but whether he will reproduce his best on race day remains to be seen. He is in the Hokio Hack Handicap on Saturday. Malayan and Tea Queen finished on terms at the .end of six furlongs in lmin 18sec, doing the final half-mile in 52 l-Ssee. Both are engaged at Levin. Hunting Call was going more easily than Mythology at tho end of sis fur-lon-»s in lmin 18 l-ssec, the last halfmile taking153 l-ssec7 K. J. Mackio rides Mythology in the Maiden Race on Saturday. Barneses, who ■ may not make tlie Levin trip, would not go faster than lmin 20sec for six furlongs. Ho is generally a bad track worker, and needs a strong jockey up before he will do his best. . Saltpot, on the tan, 'sprinted half a mile in 57sec .. Shootist, who has no engagement at Levin, did half a mile in' 52 2-ssec. Intruder was sent over six furlongs/ but he was never going freely, and took lmin 21'2:osec, with 56sec for the final half-mile. Acis was ahead of Acorn at the end of three furlongs on'the two-year-old track in 41scc. Eminent and Caught did six furlongs■ at a good three-quarter: pace, coming home the last half-mile, in 56sec. BACK FKOM EICCAETON. Lady Pam! and Historic strode round twice, and sprinted home from the-half-mile in olsec.'. They both-look well after their racing at-Bicearton. Eothen had a slight call over Joie do Val a few chains from the post in a five-furlong trial, but the latter drew up to him in the last strides and finished the more strongly of the'pair. The full time was lrriin 4sec, with the last halfmile being done in 51se«, H> Gray rides Joie de Val and T. Green Eothen on Saturday. '.•■'' - ■ White Doe. was'a length ahead of Gold Sand at the end of five furlongs in lmin 4 2-ssee, the last half-mile taking 51 3-ssee. Oral and Oratorian wound up thenwork with, a sprint down the straight. The two-year-old' is making good progress now, and he will probably be produced at the Auckland Summer Meeting. . : St. Roger and General Assembly, also from 11. B. Lorigan's stable, did half a mile together in 50 -2-ssee.- St. Eoger, a two-year-old, by Roger do Busli, is more forward than Oratorian, but ho will probably never be more than a pure sprinter^ whereas Oratorian should show to advantage over a distance, as he is from that good mare Oratrcss, dam of Oratris and Concentrate. Tobaccoland 13 being allotted easy tasks at preseat, and he-will not be called on again till afwr the Feeding Meeting. Ho is- looking very well. Peep was in front of Zephyrus at the conclusion of seven furlongs in lmin 37sec. Crash, not doing his best, ran six furlongs alone in lmin 22 2-ssec, the last half-mile taking soscc. GOOD MILE GALLOP. Kiriana was doing it better than Half Acre at the end of a mile in lmin 48sec. The first half-mile took 52sec, and the last half 56sec, but Kiriana <-,ould have made tho final figure faster. The half-brother of Bayaere is on the improve, but ho will probably find Playground, Cluny, and Dainty Ways too formidable for him on Saturday. Lady Bone went- with Valrewa most of: the way, in a "five-furlong trial, but drew out over the last few chains and came home strongly two lengths clear of her mate. The full time was lmin 4sec, and for tha final half 51sec. Lady Reno is a very fit' mare, -, and if she goes to Levin she will bo a hard proposition.in the Mako Mako Hack Handicap. ■"•"-■ "•'■ Black Mint and Dainty Ways were ■well matched over seven furlongs, the final sis furlongs-Of-which-took lmin 19 l-ssec, and the last half-mile 53 2-5 sec. Presont intentions' are to start Dainty Ways in the Lake Hack Handicap, but, if a suitable rider is obtainable, she may contest the Levin Handicap. K. J. Maekie rides. Black Mint in the Levin Handicap, and H. Gray wil ride Dainty Ways if she starts in the hack-race. ■'• ■ ; Courtliko is being worked regularly now, and she "will probably have her first race at Feilding. She looks well, but has not yet been tested against the watch. ■ . .-• ■■■■ A. Goodman has recently brought in Wee Night, a five-year-old brown gelding by Heather Mixture from, tho Ahei maro Nightshade, who has ' not raced since the Woodville . Autumn Meeting in 1929. Wee Night is a half-brother to Windy Night, who. was possessed of a lot of track speed.some years ago. He may make his reappearance at Woodville ■ next month. .' Goodman has retired the King Soult mare. Modern to the. stud, and she has been sent .on a visit to Gascony. Gascony, is doing his first season this year, and results will,, be watched . with, interest, as .he ■is the only, stallion .to. carry on ,the King John male lino: •
